Analysis and Homage

She was a very brave soul. Her life was not easy, and her lagna set a strong foundation for everything she endured. With Cancer ascendant at 25 degrees, she was deeply emotional and protective of her loved ones—her siblings, children, and parents. At the same time, she possessed a steely determination and was a stable, reliable, and remarkably tough individual. She had to be strong, given the many highs and lows in her personal life.

The second house, occupied by the Sun (lord), Mercury, and Ketu, indicates that her father and family were auspicious influences in her life. She lived in comfort and relative luxury, and she came from a family deeply connected with singing and music—an inheritance she carried forward. Her relationships with her siblings were generally good, though with occasional ups and downs.

The third house reflects the trauma in her married and domestic life, with Jupiter as an enemy and Venus debilitated. It is therefore not surprising that she married the legendary singer R. D. Burman, who passed away early, around 40 years ago. Jupiter’s affliction also signifies sorrow connected to children, including the sudden loss of one of her children.

Despite immense personal struggles, her inner strength kept her at the pinnacle of her craft. She seemed to understand that she was born to sing and bring joy to others, even at the cost of her own sorrow.

Mars in the fourth house made her a Manglik, and it also contributed to her wealth, which she earned through her own hard work. Her net worth was significant, and she spent most of her life close to her place of birth—Mumbai remained her base throughout.

The seventh house, with Saturn as lord and retrograde, suggests that while she achieved great professional success, it came through sustained struggle. Nothing came easily. She sang for nearly eight decades—an extraordinary journey marked by resilience, grace, and perseverance. Saturn in this position also indicates associations with people from her own profession, such as R.D. Burman, but her personal and romantic life remained modest and somewhat unfulfilled. Her strongest support system remained her birth family and siblings, who stayed close to her throughout her life.

Rahu in the eighth house points to a sudden or unexpected departure. As seen, she passed away peacefully without prolonged suffering.

The Moon in the tenth house highlights her emotional strength, mental resilience, and immense professional success. It also indicates a life connected to water—fittingly, she lived in Mumbai.

At the time, she was undergoing her Saturn Mahadasha, associated with the seventh house and retrograde Saturn, which was set to end in 2027. Even at an advanced age, she continued to withstand Saturn’s challenges with remarkable strength. She faced her karmic trials with dignity and grace. Ultimately, age caught up with her—but such endurance is possible only for those who rise above their charts and move toward liberation.

I pay my respects to this noble soul who was born in our country and bought us a lot of happiness and joy through her voice. She will live on in my heart, and those of others, forever.

Om Shanti Shanti Shanti
