Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi was the 7th Prime Minister of India and was in office from 31 October 1984 till 2 December 1989. He was born in Mumbai on 20th August 1944 at approximately 0810 Hours. There are various birth time floating around on the net, but this seems to be the most accurate one.
He was tragically assassinated while campaigning outside Chennai on May 21st 1991. His untimely death was a shock to the complete nation. Everyone would remember where they were when the news of his untimely passing spread like wildfire. I was in my 3rd year of engineering in in Manipal, Karnataka and was shocked by this news. I remember we were preparing for our semester exams and when the rumour spread in the middle of the night; many of us students when to the local Manipal press to ascertain what had happened. We all were informed when the first print of the paper came out at dawn that he had been assassinated by a ‘human bomb’. Our exams were postponed and we all left for our home towns. Needless to say, the country plunged into deep sorrow.

RAH from 26/11/81 till 26/11/99 – As soon as his 12th house Rahu mahadasha with KSD started from 1981, events began to unfold in his life which would bring him to his death. These were destined events and were beyond his control, despite him not wanting to enter politics – his brother’s sudden demise and mother’s assassination forced him to take on the political mantle. I think deep inside he knew that his time was numbered. Now if this was via astrologers or tantriks or his own hunch, I do not know but I get the impression from my memories of news events from those days that it was reported that he (and immediate family) sensed that his end was near and truly he did not live to cross his 12th house Rahu mahadasha and due to KSD.

- Saturn in between Rahu/Ketu meant it would be linked to his profession and be sudden
- If one good thing came out of his tragic demise it is that since his assassination, the security apparatus around leaders is taken very seriously
